The Changhe Z-11 was the first indigenously designed Chinese helicopter. Its development began in 1991 based on the French Eurocopter AS.350 Écureuil. The prototype of the Z-11 helicopter made its maiden flight in December 1994, and began leaving the production line in 1998. Later, various military versions were created based on the helicopter. Thus, in 2004, a reconnaissance modification of the helicopter was presented under the designation Z-11WA with an updated observation and targeting system.
Introduced in Update "Drone Age", the Z-11WA combines good speed, small size, excellent manoeuvrability, and excellent armament, including HJ-8A anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). Additionally, it boasts thermal imaging equipment. Its main drawback is the limited arsenal consisting only of the relatively slow and short-ranged HJ-8A ATGMs, 57 mm and 90 mm rocket pods, and 12.7 mm machine gun pods. Due to the lack of armour and other defensive features, this helicopter is best used sneakily, locating targets from afar and creeping closer to attack from unexpected angles.
