Yugumo (夕雲, namesake: Evening Cloud) was the lead ship of her class of destroyers in the Imperial Japanese Navy. Laid down at the Maizuru Navy Yard on June 12, 1940, launched on March 16, 1941, and commissioned on December 5, 1941, Yūgumo quickly saw action. She participated in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, escorting Admiral Nagumo’s strike force. Later, she served as a carrier escort during the Battles of the Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz Islands. In October 1943, during the evacuation of Japanese troops from Vella Lavella, Yūgumo engaged American destroyers, hitting and sinking USS Chevalier with a torpedo. However, she sustained heavy damage under concentrated fire and ultimately sank. Despite her loss, the mission was successful, as the Japanese completed the evacuation amidst exchanges of artillery and torpedoes.
She was introduced in Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy". Yugumo features powerful torpedoes and solid performance. However, her main guns lack armour-piercing and semi-armour-piercing shells, which can make gun duels challenging against heavily armoured opponents.
